Narrative Reflection

                                                            Narrative Reflection

HEY! My name's Timmy and during my collaborative assignment I took part in the Hype Team. The Hype Team job was to create flyers to distribute the information for Hip Hop Laney Club on Hip hop for change. This was my actual first time on creating a flyer. I would say that I did enjoyed making a flyer even though it was hard but I liked gathering the information and displaying them. What I did learn a lot about was that Hiphopforchange has a lot of information on their website. I learned that Hiphoforchange uses hip hop as a tool and a positive way to consciously alert the community about the issues that impacts how hip hop is portrayed. I love how Hiphopforchange seeks to address the injustices of representation through education, artist voices and more.
To be honest, this is my last time taking ENGL1A because I’ve been struggling just like Susan and Rebecka. They gave me the courage to say that its okay to have your last chance to complete ENGL1A, but you still got to give it your all. I thought it was bold for them to throw that out there because I think it’s embarrassing for me to let my peers know. Even though I have and had struggles writing throughout my essay, I had the idea to PRINT OUT information on MLA citations, how to write a Critique essay, and an Argumentative essay to help me walk through the process. I learn to use my outside source to help provide and benefit the help I needed. One essay I wanted to reflect on was the third essay on Hip Hop and the American dream. I thought it was a difficult essay to me. The hard part was trying to find parts in the movie The Matrix to compare whether Hip Hop is the American Dream or an illusion. Also I learned to look in depth in the movie and more into my thoughts to see the bigger picture beyond. During my 3rd essay I learned so much about comparing The Matrix and Hip hop. Like how the Blue and Red pill is the main source of impact on changing a person mind to seeing what is real and what is an illusion. I also learned that not all hip hop music is the same. Hip Hip music all have their own uniqueness and story told by many artists to help influence or give the young youths something real to listen about.
How can service learning contribute literacy, academic writing, and student understanding of the rhetorical situations?
I learn from my classmates that service learning is a HUGE part to contributing to your peers, teachers, school, etc. Working with people gives you the team spirit to work and collaborate together. Like Susan presentation, she talks about how WE all as a student have so much to give and learn from one another. Everyone that contributed, helped, and supported the Hip hop showcase made it possible for it to happen. I’m so glad that my flyer was completed to get people attentions to come to the showcase. I’m also glad I got to work on my first flyer alone. Working with someone would’ve been fun and creative, but it’s nice to work solo and complete a project alone.

Thanks for my classmates for contributing their self and knowledge and about what they have learned and stories about Hip Hop culture. It taught me that everyone has their own paste and we all come from different backgrounds. Never judge ANYONE you don’t know or Never judge a book by it’s cover. Everyone and everybody ideas made the showcase become real. Thank you Adrienne Oliver for contributing and distributing the knowledge of conscious and unconscious of Hip Hop.

Timmy, you are just amazing. You have so much wisdom and just a really good outlook on things. I had no idea you were in the same boat as me and Rebekah, but definitely remember you are not alone. :) We are all pieces to the same puzzle. :) (and besides, struggle sometimes makes the reward twice as nice.) I regret not finishing the flyer with you and I'm sorry you ended up doing that alone. You did a stellar job by the way! I can tell you'll be able to conquer anything you want in life. :) I wish you the absolute best Timmy!
